Delicious women? Or women with big appetites? Frankly, I had no idea when I bought this book. I just wanted to buy it before some prude complains to the authorities to get it banned.
Yes, it’s the notorious Chua Lam again. In this book, he talks about women – almost every aspect from beauty, sexiness to hairstyle, mannerisms and fertility. I’ll discuss a bit on an issue that is relevant to Singapore. In one essay, he mentions that a radio station in Hongkong conducted a survey on the 10 most desirable attributes of a woman. The top 3 were:
1. Positive outlook
2. Confidence
3. Kindness
Interestingly, beauty and a good figure were not within the top 10 most desirable attributes.
4. Intelligence
5. Easygoing
6. Knowledgeable
7. Independent
8. Thoughtful
9. Well-groomed
10. Gentle
Chua Lam makes many bold, bald, brutally honest and politically incorrect statements in this collection of essays. Many refined individuals have used various elegant ways to define sexiness. To him, a woman is sexy if she makes you feel like going to bed with her, period.
Chua Lam believes that a society where the men are forced to pretend not to value beauty, good figure and gentleness is one where the fertility rate must be very low – like Hongkong. Except for gentleness (which was ranked last) many of the attributes HK men valued can be found in Empress Wu Zetian. Would anyone feel like making love with her?

Chua Lam had quite wisely moved out of Singapore. Otherwise, he would have “moralists”, “concerned parents” and other righteous people complaining against him on a daily basis. At least in HK, people will scold you in their own capacity and not seek help from the authorities to silence you. Otherwise, Chua Lam could not have been so successful.
I wonder what answers Singaporean men would give when asked to list the top 10 most desirable female attributes.
