爱的歌声已失落

余天 was a megastar from the 1970s right up to the late 1980s. Even though he wasn’t very popular with the young people in the 1980s, (刘文正was the unbeatable king of Chinese pop of that era), 余天 was still a force to be reckoned with.

I didn’t like many Yu Tian songs, but this song happens to be one of them. I was suddenly reminded of this beautiful song when I ran to Punggol Beach this morning. I even tried singing it but couldn’t quite remember the lyrics. 海边 brings me back to my teen years.

Now listen to Yu Tian sing 海边 today. I can’t help feeling sorry for him. At age 66, his once deep, soothing yet powerful voice is gone with the waves. Another reminder for us to seize the day and when the time comes, to vanish like a dewdrop – at our most glorious moment.
