The UN’s economic sanctions against Myanmar have only recently been lifted and the former pariah state is finally opening up its economy. Nissan and Suzuki want to manufacture cars, Ford has opened a dealership, Coca-Cola already has a local bottling plant and Singapore lost all the head start it had during its “constructive engagement” with the country.
Sadly for Myanmar, it is way behind time. It’s difficult to predict how long Myanmar is going to take to catch up with the rest of ASEAN in terms of infrastructure and technology, but it has already caught up with us in the looks department.
Below is a video of Miss Myanmar Universe, Moe Sat Wine.
According to wikopedia, a supranational union is a type of multi-national organisation where negotiated power is delegated to an authority by governments of member states. Whatever that means. Even less meaningful is a Miss Supranational Pageant. The winner is Khin Win Wah. She seems to tell that Myanmar is as capable of producing sophisticated beauty queens as adorable girls next door.
Regardless of whether you’re interested in Myanmar’s economic potential, there is certainly more than one reason to watch this country.
